Sole Proprietorship with Your Spouse (Oct 31 2004 13:44 GMT) - Nolo: "If you are going into business for yourself and your spouse will help out a little, you don't necessarily need to hire your husband or wife as an employee or independent contractor, nor do you need to form a partnership, LLC, or corporation. If you follow certain guidelines, you can continue to operate as a sole proprietorship (a one-owner business)." |

Niente lega o udc, niente alemannismi, solo Liberali , solo Repubblicani . Una destra nuova serve all'Italia piu' di qualsiasi altra cosa. |

Losing Gracefully (Oct 31 2004 13:43 GMT) - I am a football lover, indeed, it is not for nothing that it's called the beautiful game. But it wasn't always so; in truth, there was a time when I detested it with a passion and I'd rather have stuck pins into my fingernails than watch a match. FRance '98 changed all that and I haven't looked back> |

Data Tab - Genoprettelse? |

Halloween in The Witch City (Oct 31 2004 13:42 GMT) - Today is the top of Salem's tourist season... Halloween! Every year hundreds of thousands of people come to Salem (the witch city) for the Halloween festivities. The picture to the right is actually not a witch. Until recently I thought it was (after all it is right infront of the witch museum). |

My Election Prediction (Oct 31 2004 13:41 GMT) - In November 1980, I was 17 years old, a couple of months shy of my 18th birthday, and so couldn't yet vote. But I very much wanted Ronald Reagan to win. (I can't remember exactly why now I supported Reagan -- I just know that I didn't want another four years of President Carter. In retrospect, I've come to see Carter as the most honest man to become President in decades, while at the same time hopelessly ineffectual, and often think that in this day and age, perhaps it's impossible for a truly honest person to be an effective president.) I was sad while the polls were open on election day that year, because I was convinced Reagan was going to lose. |

Why Queens Matters (Oct 31 2004 13:37 GMT) - "...(I)n the 1960s New York’s political class did its best to destroy the old Queens though high taxes, inattention to schools and crime, and bad social policy. Today, as New York’s political culture lurches back toward the left, the city is again growing hostile to middle-class families and entrepreneurial business owners of the sort that Queens has in abundance. It’s therefore worth remembering what Queens once was, and what almost destroyed it, as we take the measure of how powerful an economic and political force the new Queens has become." (City Journal) This is where I grew up in the '60's. |

Community Culture (Oct 31 2004 13:35 GMT) - There's a Bedouin proverb which goes like this: Me against my brotherMe and my brother against my cousinMe, my brother and my cousin against the foreigner In the past two years there's been a rash of websites which have sprung up to cater for the formation of communities and, looking at them, you really have to wonder whether we have improved the ability to foster a rich community experience. Communities which prosper over the next 12 months will be communities who are able to create a mentoring atmosphere and gain retention by helping struggling users to learn better ways of doing things or, to provide some sort of validation as to where they fit within the wider community pool. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against "Top N X" lists; |

The Immigrant Gang Plague (Oct 31 2004 13:34 GMT) - "Hispanic gang violence is spreading across the country , the sign of a new underclass in the making... Immigration optimists, ever ready to trumpet the benefits of today’s immigration wave, have refused to acknowledge its costs. Foremost among them are skyrocketing gang crime and an expanding underclass. Until the country figures out how to reduce these costs, maintaining the current open-borders regime is folly. We should enforce our immigration laws and select immigrants on skills and likely upward mobility, not success in sneaking across the border. |
