Confessions if an iPod Widower (Oct 31 2004 17:28 GMT) - The Wife has wanted an iPod for quite some time now, so - being the dutiful husband I am - I went ahead and waited a couple years until I had made all my own vanity purchases, paid off some bookies, and got her one. I opted for the 20 Gb model because, well, what the hell do I know? We have (what I assumed were) bunches and bunches of CDs, so better safe than sorry. Good thinking, that was, because even after loading most of her discs and a smattering of mine, there's still well over 10 Gb on the thing. Anyway, I can already tell what a positive effect this is going to have on the marriage. |

John Kerry Is a Closer (Oct 31 2004 17:24 GMT) - ...and that should clearly be evident in the next 48 hours. What's also clear despite OBL tapes, the explosives screw-up, Abu Ghraib and any other news story you or I think is important, the electorate doesn't seem to budge. Why? I was intrigued to hear some of the theories on the talking heads shows; it's culture issues, not class economic issues. |

Endorsement Tally (Oct 31 2004 17:24 GMT) - E&P has this round-up of the Kerry victory in the newsprint world: In all, Bush gets 13 new papers added to our tally today as his opponent wins 11, but Kerry continues to lead in the overall count by 186 to 151. Kerry also holds a wide lead in circulation of supporting papers, by about 19 million to almost 13 million. E & P has learned that The Pioneer Press (Saint Paul) in key battleground Minnesota will endorse Bush on Sunday. While the paper also backed the president in 2000, this had seemed like a potential switch to Kerry, as Knight Ridder papers around the country have gone for the challenger by at least 18-2. |

Cherie Blair Speaks Out On Human Rights (Oct 31 2004 17:24 GMT) - Cherie Blair lambasts Bush over human rights CHERIE Blair has criticised the policies of the US President George W Bush, attacking his stance on terrorist prisoners and gay rights. The Prime Minister's wife was condemned by supporters of the US President, after a speech to Harvard law students which contained a stinging rebuke to Bush, while on a lecture tour of the United States. She attacked the manner in which the White House has dealt with the human rights of UK citizens detained at the US-run Camp X-Ray prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Blair said the decision by the US Supreme Court, fiercely opposed by Bush's government, to give legal protection to two of the Britons detained at the camp was "profoundly important" and a "significant victory for human rights and the international rule of law". She took a sideswipe at Bush's record on gay rights, condemning the arrest of a homosexual couple in the President's home state of Texas, for defying a ban on gay sex. |
