The Young Visiters (Oct 31 2004 18:43 GMT) - TV Front Reviews: Although based on the writings of a child (9-year-old Daisy Ashford, to be precise), "The Young Visiters" is a family film but not really a children's story. That's a delicate high-wire act, and director David Yates (whose credits include the BBC thriller "State of Play") and writer Patrick Barlow have deftly tiptoed through it, yielding a warm and surprisingly unsentimental production that has "evergreen" written all over it. |

Last Letters Home: Voices from American Troops from the Battlefields of Iraq (Oct 31 2004 18:43 GMT) - TV Front Reviews: HBO has presented the Bush administration something of a gift by waiting until after Election Day to air this achingly painful special, which even with its understated, no-frills approach provides a devastating window into the war in Iraq. The pay service plans to make this Veteran's Day telecast available on an open channel to all cable subscribers, and whatever one's political leanings "Last Letters Home's" wrenching portrait of loss and sacrifice deserves to be seen -- especially by those who blithely use "Support the troops" as an applause line. |

Huff (Oct 31 2004 18:43 GMT) - TV Front Reviews: Showtime's dramatic series have historically leaned toward unevenly executed high concepts tailored to niche audiences, from sci-fi programs to "Queer as Folk" and "The L Word." In that respect, this new hour is notable for its fuzzy, low-key premise, to the point where, seven episodes in, I'm still not entirely sure what it's "about," in a big-picture sense. |

Are Marketers Musicians? (Oct 31 2004 18:43 GMT) - Almost everyone has tried to play a musical instrument at some point. There were always a few around who seemed to have a natural talent, while the rest of us (and our families) had to struggle through sour notes, boring scale exercises, uneven timing, and learning the whole new language of music. It was all very strange at first, but with dedicated practice and learning over time, it got a little bit easier. For most of us, our music may not have been brilliant, but it became tolerable, and even occasionally pleasing to the ear. |

Which version of CSS and HTML (XHTML)? (Oct 31 2004 18:42 GMT) - I think that you're right on the htm vs. html difference, Tam. If a web server was based on windows 3.x, it could only handle file extensions that were three letters long, so instead of using html, people had to use htm. If you use either, try to be consistent in your usage on the same site. |
