Going to the Opera (Oct 31 2004 20:37 GMT) - Charity managed to snag a subscription for the SF Opera earlier this year, and so far we've seen Cosi fan tutte, La Traviata, Billy Budd and Le Grand Macabre. In all honesty, I wasn't expecting to really like them, but so far, I'm glad she got the tickets. The reason I'm mentioning this is because we went to see Le Grand Macabre last Friday, which just happened to be its American premier. In a word, it was craptastic. It's a thoroughly modern affair, both in terms of the music and the plot (if you want to call it that, it's more like four sketches strung together). |
