Enfranchised Voter (Nov 02 2004 23:59 GMT) - !! I voted at Springfield High School by Spring Meadows around 2:45. I walked right up, voted, and left 5 minutes later. I was not hassled, intimidated, or suppressed in any way. I guess that The Reverend Jessie Jackson was wrong when he called me yesterday and said that I would be disenfranchised and that it would be the GOP's fault. |

How long will it last? (Nov 02 2004 23:59 GMT) - An Anonymous Patron writes "How long will it last? T. Scott Plutchak says major reports are printed and filed, so they will still be preserved. But there is no paper trail of memos and daily communications and meeting minutes—the sorts of things that lay out the discussions, wrong turns, deliberations, and compromises that are the substance of what is palely reflected in final reports. Archivists are now beginning to develop systems intended to effectively address this problem. |

The Know-It-All (Nov 02 2004 23:59 GMT) - There is an interesting book out called, "The Know-It-All" that is about a man that read the entire Encyclopædia Britannica in one year. He figured reading the encyclopedia from beginning to end would fill some gaps in his formal education and greatly increase his "quirkiness factor." |

More about the flood at Hawaii University (Nov 02 2004 23:59 GMT) - Quoting from Wandering Monologue weblog entries and photo album. [Quotes have been edited to include links to photos] "The fire alarm went off prior to the flood and everyone in LIS 650 dutifully exited the building in a calm and orderly fashion. Moments later, the group got an all clear and went back inside. Approximately 10 minutes after this photo was taken, they'd be breaking a window in order to escape the flood." "Our entire department, including all the student records from the LIS department office, furniture, books, computers, and several non-load bearing walls have been destroyed. |

Latest SCSI Drive Reviewed (Nov 02 2004 23:59 GMT) - Sivar writes "StorageReview got their hands on a Maxtor Atlas 10K V, the first SCSI hard drive in more than two years to double capacity. Considering how quickly storage was improving just a few years ago, and other news like Intel's cancellation of the 4GHz Pentium IV despite AMD's lead you have to wonder if the traditional predictions of the end of Moore's Observation are actually beginning to come true." |

Election Day, Part III Well, ... (Nov 02 2004 23:58 GMT) - Election Day, Part III Well, it seems to be running smoothly after all. No need for the melodrama of my previous posts, although the organized Republican vote suppression efforts are still shameful, if not very effective. If you haven't voted, hurry up! I don't recall getting a single call during the runup to the 2000 election, BTW. But THIS year, my God: |

ya know (Nov 02 2004 23:56 GMT) - I'm guessing that about now Mr. Blackwell's status as a future crossover star for the Ohio GOP is getting very foggyA federal appeals court on Tuesday overturned a directive from the Ohio secretary of state that had barred reporters and photographers from polling places, finding the restriction unconstitutional. The ruling "says that the court cannot support the proposed restricton of the First Amendment guarantee," attorney Karen Lefton, who represented the Akron Beacon Journal in the appeal. "I think it was important to establish media access to voting places."The 2-1 decision from the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals came down at about 3 p. |
