The Clio Is Back!!! (Nov 19 2004 23:58 GMT) - Oh, man! The handheld-laptop cross-breed Clio is coming back. For those of you who don’t remember, the original Vadem Clio was a nifty Windows CE device that looked kind of like a mini-laptop. It had a real keyboard and a screen on a swivel, but it ran WinCE rather than the then-current Windows 98 — |

Convergence View (Nov 19 2004 23:58 GMT) - Ramesh Jain writes about the impact of the recent announcement of Comcast and Microsoft working together: Set top box is not going to be just a simple recorder or a simple controller of TV programs; it is going to a major enabler of new technology that will enter TV space. In terms of electronics and computing technology, so far most of the advances in TV space have been in hardware and communication (transmission). Software has played role only in production of programs. |

Apple Stores As Pickup Joints? (Nov 19 2004 23:57 GMT) - GMSV points us to a story saying that the SoHo Apple store in NYC has suddenly become a hopping singles place, as people try to pick each other up as they check their email. To be honest, this sounds like an effort by the store to bring in a bit more foot traffic. Of course, since they don't serve drinks, I guess you just need to buy the object of your affection a few tracks for their iPod. |

RESTful Flash plus Flex history. ... (Nov 19 2004 23:49 GMT) - RESTful Flash plus Flex history. After Kevin Lynch was gang tackled for failing to integrate his Flash deep-linking example with the browser's history navigation (Back/Forward), I recalled that Flex includes a history manager that's intended to support just that kind of integration. Manish Jethani, a Macromedia developer, has created another example that shows how Kevin's technique can be combined with the Flex history manager. (Manish's source code has now been incorporated into Kevin's downloadable archive.) I tried the new example using Flex 1. |

Know thyself (in 105 minutes) (Nov 19 2004 23:49 GMT) - I've spent the evening with a very good friend at a wonderful classical concert (more of which later, perhaps). However, earlier on tonight it suddenly dawned on me - thanks to one of those blinding moments of self-realisation that, rather annoyingly, I get all too often - that I was being extremely bad company. I was weary and difficult to talk to, and trying to engage me in conversation was rather like wading through treacle on a pair of skis. This, I'm afraid, was the dreaded Friday Effect in action - the essential ingredients of which are the end of a tiring working week, followed by an attempt to balance a desire to go out and be sociable with a desire to clear my head by going home, locking the front door, turning on the central heating and enjoying a good book and the sound of silence. Of course, anyone with any sense would have said: |

There probably is little fear of contradiction that with 1,200 Wi-Fi sessions per week, the British Library's Wi-Fi network is the most popular (and largest) in London: The library officially launched its Wi-Fi service today through its 11 reading rooms, conference auditorium, cafe, restaurant, and outdoor area. The Cloud is operating the service, providing pay-as-you-go service and allowing roaming with its many partners. HP was involved in the build-out, although the press release is vague. |
