FIA On3 Networked Multimedia System Reviewed (Nov 30 2004 17:59 GMT) - Anonymous Howard writes "Designtechnica has reviewed Fia's On3 networked multimedia system. It uses Linux for its OS, supports Samba, audio & video (including Ogg), but the On3 seems to be marred by a lack of some important features. For example, you can't create playlists or autoplaylists (playlists based on rules.) You can only play music sorted in folders, so if your music is sorted by artist and album, you can only listen to each folder at a time. |

All Politics Is Google (Nov 30 2004 17:58 GMT) - I realize this revalation comes a bit late, but I've discovered we can use sophisticated search technology to determine people's relative political preferences. Judging from these search results, the new political dream ticket is a goat, teamed up with a dog. |

Is Orkut dying? (Nov 30 2004 17:56 GMT) - Unfortunately, the site is excruciatingly slowly -- a problem they will hopefully work through in the future. There's a lot of members signed up to probably every subject under the sun, but a very noticable lack of any significant participation in any of them (at least the ones I'm subscribed to). I strongly suspect the lack of moderation has a lot to do with it. Because of these two issues, I don't visit very often either, but check back from time to time to see if there is any improvement. None so far, I'm afraid. |

The Babylonian Talmud (Nov 30 2004 17:56 GMT) - A search for Talmud at Google will turn up hundreds of thousands of hits, a depressing number of which are to anti-Semitic sites. However, to our knowledge this is the first extensive English translation of the Talmud to be posted on the Internet. The Talmud is a vast collection of Jewish laws and traditions. Despite the dry subject matter the Talmud makes interesting reading because it is infused with vigorous intellectual debate, humor and deep wisdom. As the saying goes, 'you don't have to be Jewish' to appreciate this text. |

Blizzard extends WOW trial period due to bugs (Nov 30 2004 17:56 GMT) - Blizzard plans to give certain users an extension on their free trial period for massively multiplayer title World of Warcraft, which launched in the States last Tuesday and became available for pre-order in Europe on Friday. The gesture comes in response to criticism of technical issues surrounding the game's launch. It seems that despite running a couple of "stress tests" in the run-up to release to make sure the game could cope with demand, the developer was forced to almost double its server capacity in order to keep up - and this created some issues that made it impossible for some players to log in for a short while. |

Oda al moleskine (Nov 30 2004 17:55 GMT) - Para todos esos curiosos individuos que se preguntan quй es un moleskine, moleskinerie ofrece repite esta definiciуn y luego aсade algunos detalles propios. "It's a notebook with great paper and a envelope on the back cover and an oilskin cover and a sewn binding and the whole thing is kept tightly shut with an elastic band that makes a satisfying snap as you close your notebook for the day after a session of fantastic writing and it's an object of adoration for quite a few people out there who would rather pay an outrageous sum for a beautiful, useful object like this than a dollar-ninety-seven for a cheap spiral-bound notebook at the drugstore (not that there's anything wrong with dollar-ninety-seven cheap spiral-bound notebooks if that's what you like)." |
