Monday morning (Dec 06 2004 14:41 GMT) - It's too early to be up this early. There I was sleeping. Minding my own buiness when I was inturpted by pain. I've learned to ignore pain until it's so bad that it's screaming at me. It was bad enough to wake me up and I still should be sleeping. |

Rating colours (Dec 06 2004 14:41 GMT) - Hi, maybe the no-way-dying-out discussion about 'bad' ratings (ie. anything that's NOT 'Excellent') would calm down a bit if the rating scheme would display other colours? Eg. I personally dont like to see piss-yellow ratings, no matter if you say the content I wrote was good, but would need a small bit more to be unique/excellent, or it really is just a nice post. So let's think about that: |

Firefox’s biggest obstacle is lazy programming (Dec 06 2004 14:41 GMT) - The biggest obstacle facing widespread adoption of the Firefox browser is lazy programming – not from the Mozilla Foundation but from corporates that have not tested their applications with anything but IE. Peter Tippett, chief technologist at security risk management firm Cybertrust, said Firefox will probably gain market share with home and small business users but will struggle in the enterprise because corporate applications have not been built to work with anything but IE. "An individual can easily switch to Firefox. But doing that on a corporate level is a disaster. All kinds of internal applications are dependent on IE. |

MSN bloggers try to foul up censorship tool (Dec 06 2004 14:41 GMT) - MSN Spaces, Microsoft's new blogging service, has sparked a new game for some of its users: trying to circumvent its censorship controls. BoingBoing, a popular Web log, on Friday reported that MSN Spaces is rejecting certain blog titles or URLs because they contain words that Microsoft has deemed inappropriate. However, like so many censorship tools, Microsoft's is proving less than perfect. BoingBoing found that all of the most obvious profanities fell foul of Microsoft's electronic sentries. |

Epox goes for ATI graphic cards (Dec 06 2004 14:41 GMT) - THIS IS NOT the first time that we have talked about Epox graphic cards. At the beginning of this year we mentioned it here but at that time Epox was supposed to launch Nvidia cards. Just a bit later we managed to get a picture of an Epox card and to announce those cards for it here. Despite the plans, Epox dropped out of this graphic race as its cards were too expensive to compete with the other companies. Now Epox has decided to revive its graphic business and to enter with ATI based cards. |

AMD confirms notebook tech grafted onto Opterons (Dec 06 2004 14:41 GMT) - WE REPORTED a few weeks ago that AMD will bung its Powernow notebook technology into its Opteron processor family in the first half of 2005. This morning, AMD confirmed those reports. It said adding Powernow to the Opteron family will give servers "on demand" power management. Essentially, when things get a little hot, Powernow cools down the Opterons a little bit more. The technology also reduces the noise generated by fans. |

An Interview With Futuremark (Dec 06 2004 14:41 GMT) - FUTUREMARK went through a bit of a torrid time earlier in the year, an odd situation for the former darlings of the hardware benchmarking community. Now that much of the dust has settled I wanted to fire a few questions their way to see what they had to say, and to use the opportunity to share some of my own thoughts on the whole benchmarking issue. My sincere thanks go to Nicklas Renqvist and Tero Sarkkinen for taking time out to provide us with the answers. Read the interview at 3DVelocity. |

HP Plots New Courses with HP-UX/Tru64 (Dec 06 2004 14:41 GMT) - Uberhacker.Com writes "HP has given up on trying to bring key parts of Compaq/DEC's Tru64 operating system into HP-UX. They had once planned for the Tru64 goodies to arrive this year and made a big deal of this quick turnaround when it first acquired Compaq. Ironically, HP also announced today that it is expanding its Alpha RetainTrust program for Tru64 UNIX customers." The linked article also notes that HP has decided that it will proceed forward with purchasing some of the technology from Veritas. |
