Friendly Vac Robot Vacuum (Dec 06 2004 20:59 GMT) - In case you're the type who completely ignores headlines, you're probably wondering why there's this goofy-looking radio on the front page. For the rest of you, this so-called Friendly Vac is (yet) another line item on the ever expanding list of automated vacuuming robots. At around $2,000 it's at the higher end of the price spectrum, but it's supposed to offer the most powerful sucking action of any robotic vacuum on the market (but where do you put the coke?) It also seems fairly smart, with bump and grind stair detection as well as surface-type scanning so it can configure its cleaning properties on the fly. Nothing revolutionary, probably, but you can never have too many robots. |

The Curt Jester asks: Why the heck ... (Dec 06 2004 20:58 GMT) - "is the Archdiocese of Chicago promoting Kwanzaa?" Hey, probably for the same reason bishops across North American promote socialist economic policies and embrace every eco-feminist fad that crosses their desks... But here's The Curt Jester again: "Dr. Karenga was the Marxist leader of the black nationalist United Slaves and was convicted of torturing two women. |

Technological advancement (Dec 06 2004 20:58 GMT) - Most of the time we take the technology around us for granted. Well I know I do anyway. Today though I had two distinct moments where I just wowed at the technology around me. There I was sitting at my desk in Leicestershire in the UK chatting away to my friend who is travelling the world. She was> |

IBM Claims World's Smallest SRAM Memory Cell (Dec 06 2004 20:58 GMT) - nokiator writes "IBM issued a press release today claiming that it has built an SRAM memory cell that is ten times smaller than those currently available. My interpretation of the PRese in this release is that IBM will be able to build 256Mb or 512Mb SRAM chips or integrate 32MB or more SRAM into processor dies for cache applications in the future. Of course, showing some SRAM cell prototypes is a long ways from being able to manufacture this technology in a cost effective way. There is no information in this PR about the speed or power consumption of SRAM blocks that can be built with this new cell technology. This is not likely to be a potential DRAM replacement for mainstream applications as DRAM already offers more than ten times density compared to SRAM at much better cost. |

Chris Onstad: Genius (Dec 06 2004 20:57 GMT) - He's quickly becoming the Picasso of online comics. Not only did he create Achewood, easily my favorite strip on the web, he's created 11 blogs, one for each regular character on the strip. The characters update the blogs regularly, fleshing out their own lives and showing the reader what might happen behind the daily subplots that you read in the strip. It's really a kind of mad brilliance. And since it's Onstad, it's funny. |
