How national landmarks may have rendered me a mutant (Dec 09 2004 00:58 GMT) - Mike Murphy comments on how many landmarks there are in Berkeley. This is strange, but when I was at Berkeley, landmark status actually threatened (okay, may have threatened, but I was too chicken to test) my health. Except it wasn't landmark designation by the city of Berkeley. It was a National Historic Landmark. Gilman Hall (or more specifically, part of Gilman) was designated a National Historic Landmark because Glenn Seaborg discovered radioactive elements there. |
