Hard Hannukah, but otherwise happy (Dec 09 2004 23:50 GMT) - So, tonight through Saturday (don't know yet about next week), Ian's working the night shift. Meaning that he's not home when I get in. Rather complicates lighting the candles and opening presents (we've received several boxes in the mail over the past week - I tend to hold onto them so the gifts last for eight nights). I could just wait until he gets home so we can light the candles together. But I have to get up earlier in the morning, so would likely be going to bed almost immediately afterwards. |

Canon loses printer recycling case (Dec 09 2004 23:50 GMT) - Selling recycled Canon printer cartridges does not constitute an infringement of the company's intellectual property, the Tokyo District Court has ruled. The judgement marks the latest stage in Canon's legal battle against printer cartridge recycler Recycle Assist (RA). In April this year, Canon sued RA, claiming the company was violating its patents. ... The verdict, that RA wasn't, paves the way for other such companies to begin taking in old printer cartridges and refilling them with ink or toner - with a commensurate loss to the major printer makers' earnings from new cartridge sales. |

Apple Web hole still open (Dec 09 2004 23:50 GMT) - Apple has still not properly fixed the HFS+ filesystem named fork vulnerability discovered last week, according to the company that first noticed it, NetSec. The fix put out by the company at the end of last week will only address the security flaw for OS X systems running the Apache web server which is shipped by default. Customers using other web servers such as 4D WebSTAR remain vulnerable the managed security specialist has claimed. ...
