"Canada is the World's Most Post-Modern Country" (Dec 10 2004 02:59 GMT) - That's what our (tremendously unphotogenic, but that's becoming a tradition) Prime Minister said today, when announcing that the Liberals will introduce legislation to legalize same-sex marriage when Parliament resumes sitting in January. I'm not exactly sure how our post-modernity applies to gay weddings, but thanks for the sentiment. It's about frickin' time. I must credit Conservative leader Stephen Harper, who confirmed that his party's MPs would be able to vote their conscience in January. That was his party-line on moral issues during the election. |

http://archive. scripting. com/2004/12/09#When:4: (Dec 10 2004 02:59 GMT) - I don't usually read the Wall Street Journal, but today I did, on the flight from Seattle to Boston. There was a great op-ed piece written by David Gelertner, a computer science professor, on the IBM sale of their PC product line to the Chinese company. He said something that needed to be said. There's still a lot more work needed to do on PCs. Today's computers work like shit. |

http://archive. scripting. com/2004/12/09#When:4: (Dec 10 2004 02:59 GMT) - Looking around the room it's like an all-star squad of east coast Inkernet punditry. Jeff Jarvis, David Weinberger, Chris Lydon, Jay Rosen, Rebecca MacKinnon, John Palfrey, Britt Blaser, etc etc etc. It's nice to be in this nest again. Lots of Berkman faces scattered through the room. I've been gone long enough to miss the place. |

Desktop In Your Pocket (Dec 10 2004 02:58 GMT) - Kevin Laws writesd how desktop search companies will allow people to use mobile device as a window into your desktop world. The latest fad in the consumer world is finally giving us a glimpse into the future. Google released the Google Desktop Search utility, which indexes your personal files and emails. It then allows you to search them using the familiar Google interface. It's cute, but the really powerful tool is called X1 (from the prolific folks at Idealab). |

World of Warcraft, First Impressions (Dec 10 2004 02:55 GMT) - So I finally gave into the whole MMORPG craze. I'd played a bit of Asheron's Call back when it was in Beta and enjoyed it. And even played a tiny bit when it was released, but it never really sucked me in that much. But I have a good number of friends playing World of Warcraft, and it's one of the few games I can play on the Mac and still be able to play with them. First off. |
