Getting KDE to run in Cygwin (Dec 11 2004 23:20 GMT) - [OSNews] - Patrick Weber writes "The tutorials on the KDE-Cygwin site are very vague and they dont even have one for beginners. So I went out on my own and wrote my own tutorial. This is for anyone (even the people that have no idea what they are doing). I hope that this article is a help to everyone. |

Sequels: the lifeblood of gaming (Dec 11 2004 23:19 GMT) - From the announcements of the past week, 2005 looks to be yet another year of big sequels/follow-ups and franchise-related releases. More Red Alert may be on the horizon, Battlefield 2 is coming and a host of other part 2s, 3s and maybe even some 4s will hit shelves. But, this is the norm, and in fact, it is what gaming is all about. Once a game developer or publisher finds a game that actually makes a profit, why let it go? And, without all this frenetic franchising, we wouldnt have Warcraft 3, or Battlefield Vietnam, or Half-Life 2, or Everquest 2, or Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, or... |

Scottish blogmeet report (Dec 11 2004 23:18 GMT) - This afternoon it was the Scottish Blogmeet in Edinburgh -- and I'm delighted to report that the attendance figures were officially 100% greater than the number of people who turned up to the last blogmeet in the summer of 2002. Okay, so our attendance numbers are unlikely to rival those of the London Blogmeet (also happening today). However, Gordon and I still had a good time -- even if it was just the two of us. As it was, it turned out that The Hub Cafe wasn't the greatest of venues (quite expensive and not confortable), so after an hour and a half, we retired to the Jolly Judge (a pub with free wi-fi access -- a fact that may appeal to uber-geeks) for several more drinks. Indeed, we were still at it at 8pm. |

(We'll see if my TrackBack link to Randy's post succeeds.) That was certainly a part of supportingTrackBack on CNET News.com. |

The Smile Sessions (Dec 11 2004 23:16 GMT) - Why this groove is so groovy... This is a form of rock music archaeology -- the unearthing of the lost tracks for the never-released original recordings for the Smile album by the Beach Boys in 1966-67. This album was recorded in an atmosphere of friendly but anxious competition to be the number one pop group. But not just a pop group -- to be a pop art group. |
