MPAA targets core BitTorrent, eDonkey users (Dec 14 2004 20:59 GMT) - The Motion Picture Association of America launched a new legal campaign Tuesday targeting the BitTorrent and eDonkey file-swapping networks, two technologies widely used to trade movies online. Ratcheting up its previous online antipiracy efforts, the Hollywood group is working with law enforcement agencies in the United States and Europe to target and arrest individuals who play a critical role in the functioning of each type of network. Criminal actions have already been filed in Europe, including the seizure of seven Net-connected servers, with their operator still wanted by French police, a representative of the French government said. "These people are parasites, leeching off the creative activity of others," |

Gaz Metal: Mosh Pits And Crowd Surffing Coo Or Lame (The Pit Of Zombies) (Dec 14 2004 20:59 GMT) - I'd rather just stand and head bang, play some air guitar and scream along to the songs. Mosh pits aren't for me, I'm not a pysical person. Crowd surfers are pretty annoying. One minute your head banging and the next, some bastard is crawling over you with their massive boots on and you take it to the face half the time but I have done a few stage dives and crowd surfing and it is the coolest thing ever to do so I understand why they do it. I've only done it 3 times like. |

'Tis the season to get hammered, after all... (Dec 14 2004 20:58 GMT) - Hey, our Booze Directory had its first case of the double-check in action - we'd previously listed Banrock Station wines as vegan friendly, but two people wrote in to say they'd heard otherwise, and in one instance, there was mention of egg and dairy on the label. I don't see this as a case of the list failing as opposed to the double-check working. While "vegan by consensus" isn't the greatest model, there's clearly a lot of conflicting information out there (which can often come from a well-meaning if uninformed employee), and I think establishing a history of a company's info can provide another measure of trust and consistency. If you have a chance, it would really help everyone out if you could double check one of the companies on the list, or seek out info from your favourite drink maker that's not currently listed. Thanks! |

Armed police take down "dangerous" sheep (Dec 14 2004 20:58 GMT) - "A decision was made to deploy armed police officers to destroy the animal as an absolute last resort." We're talking about a sheep. A sheep that might have wandered into traffic. Uh. huh. |

They were Jim Hake, CEO and founder of Spirit of America, which I wrote about last spring. His operation is bringing help from U.S. citizens to people who need it in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it's worth your time to look at it. |
