Run Your Own Race - At Your Own Pace (Dec 14 2004 23:42 GMT) - On Thanksgiving Day, dawn spills over Dana Point Harbor where thousands of runners gather for the annual Turkey Trot. The largest holiday race in California beckons folks of all ages, sizes, shapes, and abilities. Waiting at the starting line for the 10-K, I talk to a Dad and his 7 year-old daughter. Around me, I hear bravado talk about marathons, triathlons, hard bodies and zippo fat content. Thankfully, I spy silver haired folks with knee braces, a young couple with babies in jogging strollers and runners decked in costumes ranging from Santa Claus to Elvis Presley. |

Spend New Year's Weekend in Miami...for a nice price (Dec 14 2004 23:42 GMT) - After walking outside to get a hot beverage this morning here in the cold, cold, northeast, we started to wonder if we could still get a good deal on a room down in Miami for the New Year's weekend. The above image is what we found when we did a quick search for four nights on Hotwire's Miami section. With deals like this still floating around, and weather like weather on a daily basis, anyone want to explain to us why we are going to Connecticut for New Year's Eve? Hopefully, the rest of the hotel mavens out there will be able to take advantage of these deal, or at least find themselves in the sun at some poin, over the holidays.... |

Phillippe Starck to design Miami's Ritz Plaza Hotel (Dec 14 2004 23:42 GMT) - Starck vs. Schrager? Almost a decade has passed since Phillippe Starck designed Miami's Delano hotel, yet after ten years, the Delano still defines boutique hotel design in South Florida, and some may argue, nationwide. However, Strack is way passed the Delano, and he seems poised to compete with his ten year old creation. Miami's Ritz Plaza, at 17th and Collins Avenue is practically next door to the Delano. |

Marriot Renaissance Center: Tried and True (Dec 14 2004 23:42 GMT) - [Editor's note: mindswing, one of our favorite biz travelers, is back. In the past the 'swing has given us hot tips on how to save while on the road, and has contributed a couple of hotel stories. Nowadays, it looks like his company has him in Detroit quite often. Ahh, nothing like Detroit in December. |

Atheneum Suites: Motown... Greekstyle? (Dec 14 2004 23:42 GMT) - When a Detroit local tipped me off to the Atheneum Hotel I was hoping for a little sophistication in the "plain oatmeal" Hotel Market that is Detroit. This hotel is billed as the only 4 star AAA rated hotel in Detroit. What I found was mixed, huge suites with luxurious bathrooms, overlooking a casino and strip club. I travel frequently to Detroit for business. I usually stay in the Marriot dowtown but a collegue recomended the Atheneum Suites which are just a few minutes away. |

Pod craze, Swiss style (Dec 14 2004 23:42 GMT) - Now this is our idea of roughing it. A high-class pod in the middle of nowhere Switzerland, complete with organic meals, freshly squeezed juice, and a pre-loaded Ipod for your musical needs. Even though the Ipod is probably loaded with a snooze fest full of Eco Challenge new age crap, this mountain pod experience still sounds like a trip. |

Catfight in the Windy City (Dec 14 2004 23:42 GMT) - Nothing like a good catfight. Apparently, a Chicago resident, and blogger over at WindyCityFabulous, sauntered into the W on Adams for drinks with friends, and came away miffed at the staff. Here is part of the interaction: First, she was wearing an outfit that would put Courtney Peldon to shame -- slit up to there and hanging down to here. But the real kicker was -- we were paying the bill, and one of my friends asked how she should compute the tax on her drinks. |
