Let's face it, the Liberal Party in the 1990's was just as conservative as Stephen Harper's Conservative Party pretends to be today. The reality is that, with the exception of the last couple of years, Jean Cretien was a fiscally conservative leader. Faced with the real threat of defeat each election the Liberals maintained fiscal discipline in order to ward off a well defined right wing contender. Even the NDP shifted to the center sufficiently to piss off Buzz and his union comrades. |
