LCD as a molecular magnifying glass (Dec 16 2004 17:44 GMT) - Dutch researcher Johan Hoogboom has developed a technique for making LCDs (liquid crystal displays) without the need for cleanrooms. This technique is simpler and cheaper than current methods and is based entirely upon the self-ordering of molecules on a surface. Symantec, Veritas Hash Out Merger Agreement (Dec 16 2004 17:43 GMT) - It's turning into quite a month for tech mergers. As was rumored earlier this week, it looks like Symantec and Veritas have agreed to merge. When the deal was still in the rumor stage, CRN ran a story that included a quote from me explaining why Symantec is doing this deal. Symantec is a utility company.
