Roger's World : The Life and Unusual Times of Roger Neilson (Dec 17 2004 23:33 GMT) - Left2Right is a group blog by a number of academics interested in reaching out to conservatives and finding some sort of middle ground in American political discourse. Judging by a lot of the comments on the posts, they're not quite there yet. But the blog is well-written and pretty interesting, nonetheless.97x has new t-shirts. They are very cool. |

The Nutmeg of Consolation (Dec 17 2004 23:33 GMT) - My views about multinationals and chains are generally pretty nuanced, except when it comes to coffee. So I'm happy enough to go to Borders in a (successful) search for "The Nutmeg of Consolation" (Patrick O'Brian) especially since, as I recall, there's quite nice little independent coffee shop in a corner of the store. I get the book and order my coffee. I'm vaguely aware that something is wrong, but, given my decaffeinated state, it's not until I look around and see everyone drinking out of pa ... |

Insider's View of Mormon Origins (Dec 17 2004 23:33 GMT) - Palmer: An Insider's View of Mormon OriginsPalmer delivers a candid if uneven retelling of Mormon history sans angels. The first half, covering the BoM's authorship, Biblical passages, and revival parallels, plays best. The second half either misses (the Moroni chapter) or rehashes (the First Vision). Not for the LDS history newbie. |

The Stone Prince (Hqn Books) (Dec 17 2004 23:33 GMT) - The Stone Prince by Gena Showalter was a riot. Take one sexy young warrior under a magic spell that turned him into a stone statue. Add a shy and insecure young woman who kisses the statue, releasing him from the spell. So far, so good, right? Wrong. |

The Companions (Dec 17 2004 23:33 GMT) - It's been a busy couple of weeks and I simply got so busy that I forgot to update this blog with the information on the books I've been reading. Here are the most recent books I've finished. I'm still confused about why Barbara Delinsky chose An Accidental Woman for the title of this novel. There are two accidents which figure into the book. One is the snowmobiling accident which left Poppy Blake in a wheelchair and the other is a fatal hit-and-run that Poppy's friend Heather is accused of. |

Heartbreaker (Dec 17 2004 23:33 GMT) - Killjoy by Julie Garwood was a very fast read — as evidenced by the fact that less than 24 hours passed between the time I started reading this book yesterday and completed it this morning. This book is somewhat of a sequel to Garwood's earlier novels Heartbreaker and Mercy Lead characters from the earlier novels have bit parts in Killjoy, giving a mild sense of continuity to this "series" — |

Reefsong (Dec 17 2004 23:33 GMT) - Reefsong by Carol Severance was a serendipitous find. My niece picked it up at a library sale and I saw it sitting on her bedside table when I visited in late October. I brought it and a couple of others home to read. This was a terrific book and I'm sorely disappointed that there are only a couple more titles from this author. I searched on Amazon. |
