Reebok Signs Multi-Title Integrated Marketing Deal with EA (Dec 22 2004 23:37 GMT) - Reebok has signed a deal with Electronic Arts to promo new footwear within multiple titles, starting with NFL Street 2. So far it doesn't appear to be totally in-your-face advertisement, as Reebok will get its name out in the new football title through having playable characters who are already endorsees for the sporting good company. "Reebok is the exclusive athletic brand worn by every player in the NFL and NBA and therefore adds great authenticity to a wide variety of our video games," said EA Director of Marketing, Tom Goedde. "This agreement brings Reebok's hottest new urban gear into NFL STREET 2, with more integration in EA's upcoming NBA STREET V3." |

Intellectual Property (Dec 22 2004 23:36 GMT) - "2004 in review Patents have been big news in 2004, with Microsoft appealing against the ruling that it owes Eolas hundreds of millions in licence fees, a move which has found it some unlikely allies. Meanwhile, the EU did its level best to pass a directive "clarifying" the legality of patenting software in Europe. |

Bigclive (Dec 22 2004 23:36 GMT) - Some fun and interesting looking electronics projects, though I'm not entirely convinced of the safety / wisdom of all of them. Even though it seems the electrician does throw caution to the wind, he still does speak of the dangers involved, and thus leaves it up to the experimenter to decide whether to proceed or not. |

Rights and wronged (Dec 22 2004 23:35 GMT) - Yesterday I wrote about the Quantum Leap DVDs replacing the music due to licensing issues. This isn't the first time I've heard of that happening; I remember (but decided not to blog) several 2003 posts by Mark Evanier about similar changes made to WKRP in syndication. As he explained: If you think there's something different about those WKRP episodes from their original network runs, you're right. |

What The User Experience Community Thinks (Dec 22 2004 23:34 GMT) - Nice Vonnegut reference. I really liked Kim's post about the Usability community, too. I don't know if that community is too big, or too small, or not even a community at all. What does it take to make a community? They do seem to do a lot of talking, and disagreeing amongst themselves. |

How a Real Man Tortures Prisoners (Dec 22 2004 23:34 GMT) - The whole business had become so shameful that the charges were eventually dropped and Captain Yee bounced around from one assignment to another until he decided the hell with it all. His chief persecutor, General Miller, has had a happier fate. Donald Rumsfeld, whose kind of guy he was, sent the general to Iraq so he could teach our boys how a real man tortures prisoners. |

Helpline Comment (29465) (Dec 22 2004 23:34 GMT) - Hubert, That also depends on the vendor. *REALLY* nitpicky vendors will do a BIOS serial number or model number check and only install if the system says the correct information (this keeps people from using Dell's copy of XP on an HP, etc but can also keep you from installing that copy of XP on any HP you own). Some don't care and just check the BIOS for the manufacturer name (I just did this on a Gateway system --we never installed XP on a new gateway system our company bought, but I needed to test it on an older gateway PC (older by about 4 years) and it worked fine). - John |
