Rx: Read This (Dec 23 2004 01:53 GMT) - Washington Post story - "Most people wouldn't consider a major purchase without first comparing price and reliability of the products in question. But that task has been next to impossible for consumers of prescription drugs. This has been particularly painful for the 45 million Americans who are uninsured at some point during the year and the 25 million who are insured but have modest or no drug coverage. But now the standard bearer of comparison shopping -- Consumer Reports, published by the nonprofit Consumers Union -- has launched a free service that reports on the safety, effectiveness and cost of drugs. In each category of medication, Consumer Reports even flags "best buys" -- the drugs it considers to offer the safest and most effective therapy for the money. |

Commodore 64 in a Joystick (Dec 23 2004 01:52 GMT) - John Markoff writes of a new Commodore 64 emulator housed in a joystick, sold for $30.00, and designed by a 30-year old high school dropout and self-taught chip designer. Oh, and she's a girl. The article is interesting; it's neat to see the behind the scenes scoop on such a device, that I probably would have assumed was designed by a whole design team, and cool to see someone doing what they love and making a living at it. |

Blatant Self Promotion (Dec 23 2004 01:49 GMT) - I can see the value of directories to webmasters, and I'm especially pleased that Peter's is competitively priced and quick to repsond. I expect, too, that being that it's a project from Peter, it will contain creative ideas, now and later, that will set it apart. And this is the part that interests me more than how an SEO/SEM can use it. Directories aren't as popular for searches as engines, so for me, there has to be something ultra spectacular to make me use a Directory. For any Directory, not just Peter's, what will I, the visitor, get out of using it, and what will make me love it, recommend it, and return to it? |
