Less casual attacks, but why? (Dec 23 2004 15:30 GMT) - People are used to an ever-increasing flow of attacks against Internet-exposed system. Thus, the latest research from the Honeynet Project might come as a surprise to many (I certainly was susprised when I first noticed this trend in my honeynet, run as a part of the Project). Linux systems are actually attacked much less now than 2-3 years ago. Not only the systems are attacked less, they survive much longer even if no security safeguards are applied. It was unthinkable that an unpatched ... |

Using Cameraphones to Steal Identities (Dec 23 2004 15:30 GMT) - There's a bit of a scare story on Florida Today about criminals using cameraphones to steal personal information from you, like credit card numbers or ATM PINs. 53 years later, State reopens case in civil rights activist's death (Dec 23 2004 15:30 GMT) - On a foggy Christmas night in 1951, three pounds of dynamite tore through the Brevard County home of civil rights pioneer Harry Moore, killing the soft-spoken school principal, fatally wounding his wife, Harriette, and igniting one of state's most enduring murder mysteries. Now, five decades later, at the request of the Brevard County NAACP, Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist on Tuesday reopened the investigation, hoping to determine who committed what is thought by some to be America's first assassination of a civil rights leader.Investigators will begin by contacting Moore's family, talking with NAACP leaders and reviewing the existing files about the killing."It's an incredible case," Crist said. "Very sad, very tragic. |

Some notes on Wikipedia (Dec 23 2004 15:30 GMT) - [Simon Willison's Weblog] - I've been driving myself crazy with coursework over the past couple of weeks, and since it's always good to have something to take your mind off things I've also been spending a fair amount of time lurking around the beautiful Wikipedia. Here are a few things about Wikipedia you may have missed: It's not just Wikipedia any more; there's also Wiktionary (a multi-lingual dictionary), Wikibooks (developing open content books on various topics), Wikiquote (quotations), Wikisource (a repository of public domain source texts), Wikispecies (a biological species database), Wikicommons (free images and other media) and Wikinews (a new Wikipedia-style news site). Not to mention the huge numbers of projects in other languages. |
