From the Dept. of Smart Bloggers (Dec 23 2004 16:30 GMT) - Management at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has seized the computer hard drive of staff writer Daniel P. Finney and suspended him from work, according to local alt-weekly the Riverfront Times. Perhaps it was because Finney was discovered to be doing some extracurricular blogging on the clock. And/or maybe it had something to do with the contents of said blog. |

Pro-choice jujitsu (Dec 23 2004 16:30 GMT) - Several Planned Parenthood locations across the country have hit upon a clever way to profit from the throngs of protesters who picket abortion clinics -- a fundraising drive in which the clinic receives a donation for each picketer who shows up. Under the Pledge-a-Picket program, as described in a recent article in the Planned Parenthood newsletter, supporters pledge small amounts -- a quarter to a dollar -- per anti-choice protester. "It's like sponsoring a runner in a charity marathon," the newsletter says. Despite the small pledges, the money adds up for the clinics because "the picketers never go away." |

Revising the GPL (Dec 23 2004 16:30 GMT) - Exstatica writes "Finally, an update to that slightly outdated GPL (General Public License). This story discusses a few changes that the new GPL will include. Will the new GPL draw users to it, rather then using other licenses such as Apache's License or the Netscape Public License?" |

Station ID needed (Dec 23 2004 16:29 GMT) - Yesterday afternoon and evening (say, from 5 to 7) I heard some of the most interesting Christmas music ever, on the radio at 1450 AM here in Portland. Does anybody know who was DJ'ing that? As best I can tell... |

Hoggard on how he builds ... (Dec 23 2004 16:29 GMT) - Hoggard on how he builds a blogroll. I've been thinking about mine -- have the local aggregators made it obsolete? At our conference this summer, I said all you had to do to be on my local list was have a blog, but the number of local blogs is already too great for that to be practical. My brain is displaying the little hourglass icon on this one. |

Email marketing pros/cons, best/worst (Dec 23 2004 16:28 GMT) - I'm looking for a way to let people sign up on a website to receive my newsletter. Obviously after that I'll have their permission. Then I would like to be able to send that newsletter to the people that signed up. I think what I'm trying to ask is are there companies that can do both for me at a reasonable cost? I appreciate the replies. |

Kořeněné kuřecí nudličky v hořčičné omáčce (Dec 23 2004 16:28 GMT) - [Středně propečený blog] - Po krátké pauze se tu opět začínají objevovat nové recepty. Dnes to budou kořeněné kuřecí nudličky v hořčičné omáčce. Když jsem je onehdá vařil, byl jsem bez internetu i bez svých kuchařských knih a zápisků a hořčičnou omáčku jsem nikdy nevařil, takže zde uvedený recept byl naprostým experimentem (naštěstí zdařilým) |

Happy Birthday Jesus. (Dec 23 2004 16:27 GMT) - I've been trying to think up something clever to post for Christmas, but Rob Brezsny, in his Free Will Astrology Newsletter -- to which I subscribe because he's so wonderfully far-out-there -- put it perfectly. So why try to top this: Fundamentalist Christians send me hate mail. Religious zealots have banned my last book. Along with meditation, yoga, and sex for fun, the powers-that-be at the Vatican has declared astrology to be dangerous to your spiritual health. |
