An Argument Against Federal College Loans (Dec 23 2004 16:37 GMT) - I agree with this (via The Agitator). Here's another thing to think about: without federal loans guarantees that will pay tuition for anything you want to study, students would have to demonstrate to prospective lenders that they are a good investment. That would mean more engineers, business students, and science majors and fewer humanities majors. It would also mean fewer people taking six years to get a four-year degree. |

How to Stop a Stadium? By Lawsuit, of Course (Dec 23 2004 16:34 GMT) - Two lawsuits were filed in State Supreme Court yesterday in an attempt to slow the proposed plan for a West Side Stadium. While the arguments in each lawsuit differ, the goal is the same, to slow down the stadium proposal enough so that the 2012 Olympic announcement would come first. The idea is that the International Olympic Committee would reward the 2012 Games to Paris on July 6th and not New York, thus making the stadium unnecessary or unpopular without the Olympics coming to the city. One lawsuit, filed by Cablevision, West Side residents, and a business owner, claims that the environmental study by the city was inaccurate. The other, by the Tri-State Transportation Campaign and the Straphangers Campaign, challenges the city's estimate that 70% of fans for the game would use via mass transit or arrive by foot. |

Study (Dec 23 2004 16:34 GMT) - By Susan Heavey WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Importing cheaper prescription medicines would require costly safety measures and save U.S. consumers little money, a government task force said on Tuesday in a report that lawmakers and others criticized as echoing drug industry scare tactics.
