The Case For the SecDef (Dec 23 2004 19:39 GMT) - I found Dan's anti-Rummy post solid, but not fully convincing. For the record, I tried exploring the idea of firing Rumsfeld back in May, during the Abu Ghraib debacle, and came to the conclusion that he's the best qualified man... |

Would You Believe If I Told You ... (Dec 23 2004 19:39 GMT) - Republican Congressman Ron Paul of Texas is concerned that the Republican-controlled Congress and the Republican-controlled White House are turning the United States into a police state. Amazingly, I agree 95 percent with a Republican Congressman from Texas. Yikes. We are not yet living in a total police state, but it is fast approaching. The seeds of future tyranny have been sown, and many of our basic protections against government have been undermined. |

Holy man stays standing for 2 years (Dec 23 2004 19:37 GMT) - A holy man in northern India has become famous for remaining standing for the past two years. Ram Dayal Sanichar Muni says he remains upright to do everything, including eating, going to the toilet and even sleeping. The 45-year-old, who lives at the Chamunda Devi temple in Himachal Pradesh, naps while leaning on a specially made swing. He says he has never felt the need to take a break. The sage reportedly continued with his feat after taking a vow to remain standing for 41 days. |

Perfect Visibility with Synthetic Vision (Dec 23 2004 19:36 GMT) - Four months ago, in "NASA Helps Clearing the Fog," I was commenting on NASA's Synthetic Vision program which goal is to reduce airplane accidents by 80 percent. This week, in "Synthetic Vision is no fake," Washington Technology brings us more details about the technologies used by this program. Synthetic Vision integrates GPS, a high-resolution display, detailed terrain databases and an integrity monitor that ensures the land below corresponds to the synthetic view. The pilot sees the terrain, the potential obstacles, his approach and the runway. NASA says these technologies could also be used for air traffic control or military applications. |
