New Adventures #5 (Dec 23 2004 20:20 GMT) - The BCI has just announced the fifth New Adventures in Broadcasting scheme. Some of my U.S. based readers (or indeed others) may find it interesting that the regulatory body that licenses broadcasters should run a scheme aimed at subventing quality programmes on stations. Is Heaven Populated By The Souls of Embryos? (Dec 23 2004 20:20 GMT) - This is a serious question, believe it or not, posited by bioethicist Ronald Bailey regarding the fact that between 60 and 80 percent of fertized eggs never develop into viable fetuses and are simply discarded in the normal menstrual flow. However, many anti-abortion advocates are fighting stem-cell research by saying that even these fertilized eggs from which the stem cells are generated are the equivalent of a full human being. Assuming that means that souls are created or implanted at conception, this would mean a huge number of souls -- in heaven never lived more than seven days. Since I do not believe that a fetus is a human being, this doesn't really wow me all that much. But for those who believe that a fertilized egg is a person they should consider this fact. |

Ah, Midwest Winter Weather (Dec 23 2004 20:20 GMT) - [Meerkat: An Open Wire Service] - As Josh notes, there's a lot of snow 'round these parts. My sister just headed back outside to shovel her driveway. Last night (after it took way to long to get here from the airport) I joked that I should have bought them a snow blower for giftmas. Except that I really wasn't joking. |

Here's a snip: As far as structure goes, Mercenaries is very much a do-it-yourself kind of game. By that we mean that while there is an obvious route to your goal of collecting all 52 of your most-wanted baddies, how you get there and what you do on the way is entirely up to you. You'll find four different factions to suck up to in the game: |
