Holiday Online Shopping Trends Emerge (Dec 24 2004 05:31 GMT) - "While many online shoppers are getting savvier, others are still too naive or ignorant of online dangers and engaging in risky and questionable buying practices. For example, a surprising 21 percent of respondents to a survey conducted in November by the Business Software Alliance and the Council of Better Business Bureaus admitted to having purchased software from a spammer." 21% 21% 21% 21% 21% ... This is why we get spam, folks. It works. |

Redesigning American Business (Dec 24 2004 05:31 GMT) - Business Week -- "Once we worried about where our food came from. Now we don't. Once we worried about where our commodities came from. Now we don't. Today we worry where our manufactured products come from. |

Grouping by Taste and Flavor (Brilliant!) (Dec 24 2004 05:31 GMT) - Business Week -- "And then we threw in a system based on taste -- eight taste categories. We didn't dumb it down, we just reduced it to the level where anybody could understand it -- expert, novice, somewhere in between. And we used icons and colors so people could relate. Wine experts and wine writers have talked about the way individual wines taste for as long as there has been wine. But to use taste as an organizing principle for a store was radical. |

Visual Perspective and Contrast (Shaq vs. Boykins) (Dec 24 2004 05:31 GMT) - Here's a great picture showing visual perspective and contrast. In the picture you can see Shaquille O'Neal (7'1") standing next to Earl Boykins (5'6"). These two guys look like they are from different planets. It is interesting how perspective changes as you manipulate contrast. If Earl was standing next to most people, he'd look pretty normal. |

Half-Life 2 is making me sick .... literally (Dec 24 2004 05:31 GMT) - The user experience is a crafty little devil. Designers and developers, especially in the gaming industry, shoot for stunning visual details, amazing sounds, and overall realism. The problem is that sometimes the experience is too good. That's right. Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing! |

Secret to Programming (Dec 24 2004 05:31 GMT) - "The secret to programming is not intelligence, though of course that helps. It is not hard work or experience, though they help, too. The secret to programming is having smart friends." (reference) And the secret of getting usability into your products is to get smart friends thinking about usability. Think about training! |

New graphic displays for the blind (Dec 24 2004 05:31 GMT) - Science News Daily -- "The displays use metallic films featuring various shape memory alloys which are produced layer by layer on silicon wafers using thin film technology. Display pixels are generated when the metallic film adjusts its curvature partially, similarly to bimetal snap plates for temperature switches. The movement of the films is then transferred to the touch panel via plastic pins und thus can be detected by the user." Read more... |

Shops must mix festive scents and sounds to tempt the buyer (Dec 24 2004 05:31 GMT) - Nature -- "Most shoppers acknowledge that when stores entice them in with festive music and scents at Christmas time, they are encouraged to buy more. But new research suggests that it may not be quite so simple. If shops get the combination wrong, or don't make enough of a commitment to creating a festive atmosphere, they may do more harm than good to their sales." Read more... |

Simplicity (Dec 24 2004 05:31 GMT) - "I began this trek towards SIMPLICITY based upon a simple whim. I discovered that the letters of M-I-T (the school at which I serve as a Professor) occured in natural sequence in the word SIMPLICITY. Look at this: SIMPLICITY. I was even further surprised when I found that M-I-T is also in COMPLEXITY. |

hydroponics marketing plan sample (Dec 24 2004 05:30 GMT) - The Web has evolved into a global electronic publishing medium and increasingly, a medium for conducting electronic commerce in areas such as hydroponics marketing plan sample. Electronic commerce means that you can purchase hydroponics marketing plan sample products online. One of the major downsides of the Internet is that ignorant people may pose as quasi-experts. If someone states they are a hydroponics marketing plan sample authority then that statement is certainly open to dispute. Organizations who specialize in the production and marketing of hydroponics marketing plan sample are more likely to know what they are doing then a quasi hydroponics marketing plan sample expert. |

Eagle Harbor Lighthouse; Eagle Harbor, Michigan (Dec 24 2004 05:30 GMT) - Here's another look at a very different mood of ol' Kitchi gami (lake superior that is). She had a bit of an attitude this day...much different from the placidness (placidity??) of my previously posted shot from the big lake. I took this shot during my 2003 summer road trip to the Keewenaw Penninsula in Upper Michigan. |
