MSN in 2005 (Dec 25 2004 11:41 GMT) - This year has been a busy year for MSN, taking on Google with new products and services; the recently launched Wave 10 has so far proved reasonably successful. So what's new for Wave 11? Expect continued development and fine tuning on the recently launched MSN Search, something that will be prominent in the companys mind in 2005. Microsoft Windows Server plans for 2005 (Dec 25 2004 11:41 GMT) - Following the announcement that Microsoft lost the EU appeal against removing Windows Media Player from it's Windows XP operating system, what is Microsoft planning for 2005? It's not yet clear whether work has begun on removing Windows Media Player from XP but if work is planned to start in the New Year then this could significantly delay Longhorn, again. Depending on how Microsoft chose to remove Windows Media Player they may need to recompile different sections of the operating system to ensure there is no shell integration of WMP whatsoever. Changing an operating system and ensuring it has hot fix compatibility may require an external beta test to OEMs and partners. It's a big job and one that will inevitably slow down Longhorn progress. |

Christmas Eve (Dec 25 2004 11:36 GMT) - It's 6am on christmas eve and I'm struggling to stay awake for the last two hours of this 12 hour shift. These are always the hardest. When it's quiet and warm inside and sleepiness creeps back in again. Outside, I forget to be quiet. Razzing around on my skiddoo, carrying newly arrived passengers, offloading cargo from the ship, picking up boxes and bringing them to buildings, unpacking box upon box upon box of tinned potatoes. |
