Gigabit Routers for Advanced IP Networks (Dec 26 2004 01:00 GMT) - Traditionally, networks have provided only "best-efforts-type services," which means "first come, first served" in terms of bandwidth. Today, network applications require certain levels of quality because each application has particular traffic characteristics. To meet the requirement for such advanced networks, Hitachi developed a gigabit router, the GR2000, for use in business backbone networks. This paper describes the GR2000, especially its high-speed processing, QoS functions, and IPv6 functions from the viewpoint of network solutions. |

SIP Server: Technical Overview (Dec 26 2004 01:00 GMT) - With the advance of SIP, server logic has become increasingly complex. SIP Servers need to deal with varying network topologies (such as public Internet networks, cellular networks, broadband residential networks), complex routing policies, security and SIP extensions. SIP Servers often need to handle high message/transaction rates and yield real-time performance and scalability, high throughput, and low delay. This paper discusses the protocol aspects of SIP Server behavior and the usage of the RADVISION SIP Server Platform to address the challenges of effective SIP Server development. |

Academic turns city into a social experiment (Dec 26 2004 01:00 GMT) - Academic turns city into a social experiment - Mockus' seemingly wacky notions have a respectable intellectual pedigree. His measures were informed by, among others, Nobel Prize-winning economist Douglass North, who has investigated the tension between formal and informal rules, and Jürgen Habermas' work on how dialogue creates social capital. |
