One New Zealand woman is confirmed dead in Phuket, Thailand, according to Foreign Minister Phil Goff, but the Ministry has little information on New Zealand tourists who may have been in the area. According to the US Geological Survey, the most severe earthquake anywhere in the world in more than 40 years -- now measured as a 9.0 on the Richter Scale -- struck yesterday along about a 1,000 kilometre line off the west coast of northern Sumatra at the interface between the India and Burma tectonic plates.
