IBM on the Differences Between Search for the Web, and for the Enterprise (Dec 29 2004 23:58 GMT) - I've been noticing quite a few patents on search technologies going out to IBM over the past year or so. Gary Price, at Search Engine Watch, has been noticing this too, and provided an excellent post on IBM and Search a couple of days ago. Most discussions I've seen about IBM's research notes that their focus is on searches for businesses, and not for the web. So, what's the difference between... |

Blog Business Summit (Dec 29 2004 23:58 GMT) - The Blog Business Summit has a neat offer where if you post one of these badges on your weblog they give you 50% off the regular rate (that's a $400 discount). What fool wouldn't take that deal? The conference looks great. It'll be worth it just to meet some of the guys from Business Logs, 37 Signals, Weblogs Inc, Google and even the Scobe. This will be my first major blog conference I've attended (I don't think Zap was a blog conference, per say), so it will be neat to meet people that I've read online for some time, in the case of Jason Fried half a decade. |

I.Q.'s (Dec 29 2004 23:57 GMT) - I.Q tests are easily cheated, you can learn how to pass them, if you wanted to. They are not a reliable indicator of "common sense". They do seem to indicate a general level of intelligence though, but oddly not "common" sense. As for forgetting to put it in the post, thats what I did as a very young teenager when I took the mensa test, I forgot to post it back! |

Microsoft Hardware (Dec 29 2004 23:56 GMT) - Bob Cringely speculates about the future: Take a long look at xBox development, the evolving PC and consumer electronics markets, and Microsoft's own need for revenue growth, and figure what that means for the xBox 3, which should appear around the end of this decade. My analysis suggests that xBox 3 will be a game system that's also a media receiver and recorder and a desktop workstation. Not that you'd use one box for all three things, but that you'd buy three essentially identical boxes and use them for all three functions. And of course you'd buy extra units for kids and spare TVs, etc. |
