Child's Play (Dec 30 2004 23:25 GMT) - Last year, Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine had a feature in which they got kids to play classic arcade and console games, eliciting some pretty frank comments of disgust from kids used to the much higher-tech games around today. The feature was popular enough that they have posted the results from Child's Play Part II, in which kids' hilarious reactions to Mike Tyson's Punch Out (NES), Adventure (Atari), The Legend Of Zelda (NES), Star Wars (arcade), Defender (arcade), 720° (arcade), Grand Theft Auto (Playstation), Gunstar Heroes (Genesis), Galaga (arcade), and Street Fighter II: Champion Edition (arcade) are showcased. Here's one of my favorite exchanges, in this case about Galaga:Electronic Gaming Monthly: |

ecommerce site abandonment (Dec 30 2004 23:24 GMT) - There's no doubt that abandonment issues are no longer obvious or reasons easily detected or known, which is why user testing is becoming so important. And not just any "users" either. How I proceed to navigate a motorcycle site is going to be way different than how someone who lives, breathes and eats "hogs" is going to manuver around it. For starters, they'll understand the terms, they'll know what they're looking for, they'll bring their experience with them...vs me, who knows nothing and will likely simply stare stupidly at the pretty pictures of shiney new bikes and not understand anything written in the description. |

Anti-phishing toolbar (Dec 30 2004 23:22 GMT) - Some of you may already be familiar with Netcraft. They produce massive amounts of statistics for web site owners on site vistors etc. Because of this they have huge databases of informationon websites and the net in general and they have decided to make use of those databases in order to help people defeat scammers running phishing expeditions. To do this they have created a toolbar for Internet Explorer (and are working on one for Mozilla) that mines their database for information on sites you are visiting. The Netcraft Toolbar uses Netcraft's enormous databases of web site information to show you all the attributes of each site you visit on the Web, including the sites' hosting location, country, longevity and popularity. |
