Gizmodo Year in Review: June (Dec 31 2004 20:25 GMT) - June brought the first cellphone worm for Nokia Series 60 phones, a minor threat but a story that will likely be huge in 2005, as more malicious variants appear. We also learned about the $6,700 power cord, and I had to prevent myself from commiting suicide at the news. ... Sony mentions plans for a PSP/Phone hybrid, although nothing comes of it (yet). Comdex dies. |

Gizmodo Year in Review: July (Dec 31 2004 20:25 GMT) - July was when we knew we had really come into our own, as a story about titanium breast implants temporarily put us in the top spot for Google's results for the term 'titties.' Mom could not have been more proud. I also write our most cringe-worthy story about the SmartKlamp circumcision tool—and that's just from the puns. |

Transparent transistors, coming soon, to everything near you. (Dec 31 2004 20:25 GMT) - Transparent electronics is an emerging technology which aims to produce invisible electronic circuits. Now, researchers from Oregon report they made a major advance in transparent electronics. Their zinc-tin-oxide 'thin-film' materials are amorphous, physically robust, chemically stable and cheap to produce at just above room temperature. These new materials and transistors offer many new possibilities for consumer electronics, transportation, business and the military. Even if these transpare... |

(Dec 31 2004 20:24 GMT) - Singer Janet Jackson covers her breast after her outfit came undone during a number with Justin Timberlake during the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXVIII in Houston, Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004. From wardrobe malfunctions to erectile disfunction, it's been a tough year all around for the guardians of the English language. More than 2,000 nominations arrived in Michigan's Far North, where a committee at Lake Superior State University compiled its annual compilation of language irritants. My Lectures at 21c3 (Dec 31 2004 20:24 GMT) - I was very satisfied with my experience as being a speaker at 21c3. Originally I was extremely unimpressed with their call for papers.. They demanded so much information and work while the CCC had a history of delivering so little in turn. Not this year. There was a room for the speakers with food, water, Internet and a great crew dedicated to making happen whatever you required for your presentation. |

Bluethooth (Dec 31 2004 20:24 GMT) - I'm very critical on the "Bluetooth Insecurity" FUD. It really is FUD, see an earlier RANT. The CCC wines: "But he was mostly greeted with ignorance and almost no action was taken to close the security holes although he successfully demonstrated the attack." Sure, if he tells nobody how the attacks work there is little wonder that nobody takes this seriously. |
