Fighting in the Gray Zone and Transitive Closure (Jan 05 2005 21:43 GMT) - Fighting In The Gray Zone: A Strategy To Close The Preemption Gap (PDF) is a fascinating new report out from the US Army War College's Strategic Studies Institute, proposing a more fine-grained approach to taking preemptive military action:In the aftermath of 9/11 the Bush administration published the 2002 National Security Strategy. The strategy identifi ed the gravest danger to our Nation as the “crossroads of radicalism and technology.” By announcing that “America will act against such emerging threats before they are fully formed,” the strategy brought preemption to the forefront of the national security debate. |

Taxing The Unborn (Jan 05 2005 21:41 GMT) - Your Right Hand Thief suggests that if Democrats really want to win the Social Security debate they should really call Bush's plans "Taxing the Unborn." Interestingly, he gave Patridiot Watch partial credit for it from this post, but I had never really considered it before. So here I am, considering it. It has a tangential link to abortion because the right wing always talks about "unborn children," which is what I was ridiculing in my post. That is kind of a negative in my book because it brings an issue into the debate that really has no place there. |
