More Studies On Hormone Replacement Therapy (Jan 09 2005 14:57 GMT) - Hormone replacement therapy has been implicated in higher stroke and heart attack risk in post-menopausal women. But, lately, Australian doctors have dismissed they hype saying that the effect is small and that findings should make little difference to Australian women. For the majority of women, who used HRT for its primary purpose of mitigating menopausal symptoms, the findings were "unlikely to have an impact", he said. "In terms of absolute numbers, it (the added risk) meant about 10 extra strokes per 10,000 women." They claim that what the study proved was that HRT is not recommended as a protection against stroke as had once been thought. |

Auschwitz - in remembrance [Euphrosene Labon] (Jan 09 2005 14:57 GMT) - Edited diary snapshot from a relatively recent trip to Krakow - because of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the camp... The first sight of Auschwitz was very unprepossessing. I had expected to be hit with the words âArbeit Macht Freiâ but a âWelcome Centreâ - cafeteria with cinema and car park - is the first thing you see. As you walk through, the sign is to your right and dwarfed by the modern buildings surrounding it that cater to the tourist trade. |
