The value of mission [David Orr] (Jan 11 2005 21:59 GMT) - I don't know of many things more empowering and just plain thrilling than to feel alive and full and comprehensively invested in one's chosen path. This happens, it seems, when one is absolutely able to be absorbed in his or her work/practice/art/activity and such. It is often seen with athletes, but anyone has the capacity. It is when our cerebral capacity engages with but does not dominate or overwhelm our physical/emotional capacities that we find ourselves in a truly rich and abundant place. And it is here also where we are able to contribute to the good of the greater. |
