The campaign for plain business English [Nick Gendler] (Jan 11 2005 23:37 GMT) - Charles Dehally, the newly appointed Chief Executive of Equant the telecoms group has sent a letter to all employees explaining that the company is in big trouble and changes will need to be made if the company is to survive. Amongst other things, he says that if the company is to survive there will need to be "an alignment of our cost structure to market evolutions and the company transformation". I think this means something like "We need to reduce our costs and charge less in order to become competitive" Can anyone offer a good reason why this particular choice of words was used instead of something much simpler? More Christmas Pix (Jan 11 2005 23:36 GMT) - If you click the Gallery link over there on the left, you'll (hopefully) be taken to my reconstituted photo section. There are several photos of the whole mob on Christmas morning or thereabouts. Note: these were all taken with one of the throwaway Kodak cameras, so don't assume that's the best a Canon A-1 can do; I didn't have the flash for the good camera till after Christmas. |

When I moved my site off of a windows box to a Linux box (Jan 11 2005 23:36 GMT) - the database came across, but some of the connections between tables seem to have been damaged. All posts which existed prior to the move lost their ability to administer the comments. So I've got a ton of comment spam. A ton - on old posts. I've been spelunking around in mysql, and have no confidence in my ability to fix the problem. |
