US mission to the UN (Jan 12 2005 06:59 GMT) - I had a drink this evening with a friend that works for the UN. We walked past an empty building site. He pointed out that it used to be the US mission to the UN (the equivalent of an embassy). It was torn down not long ago, but no action seems to be happening on building a replacement. That's a great sign of US commitment to the UN. |

Museum of Modern Art (Jan 12 2005 06:59 GMT) - On an unrelated matter, before my meetings I had a couple of free hours in the morning. It's just my luck that the newly reopened Museum of Modern Art is closed on Tuesdays (in comparatively dozy -- supposedly -- London, major museums are open seven days a week). So I went to the Met instead. In addition to the superb art, I found largely empty galleries. I guess NY's art lovers are going through a period of MoMA or nothing. |

What is "Too Much Gaming?" (Jan 12 2005 06:58 GMT) - Wired magazine has an interesting article which touches on the topic of how the lines between virtual gaming worlds and real life can blur in some people. Sure, like most CTF players back in the day, I used to look at a tall building and imagine how I could get to the top of it if I just had that grappling hook, but does this mean I'm going to go on a rampage after playing GTA: San Andreas or try to grind a railing after some Tony Hawk 2? Definitely not, but for those of us with grappling hook fantasies, the article is a good read just the same. |

The MMORPG's of 2004 (Jan 12 2005 06:58 GMT) - The Corporation has a four-part series outlining the MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) of the year 2004. As an avid MMORPG'er myself, I've participated in universes such as (in alphabetical order) Anarchy Online, Eve Online (beta), Everquest 1, Planeshift, Star Wars Galaxies, The Matrix Online (beta), The Sims, and There. (Yes, I said "The Sims" and "There" - I plead temporary insanity). The series is a good read. I have to say, I agree with a lot of what is said there. |
