Torturing People To See If Belief In God Relieves Pain (Jan 12 2005 23:40 GMT) - "Scientists at Oxford University are to torture people in laboratories in an experiment to see whether a belief in God is effective at relieving pain. The scientists will apply a chili-based gel to the skin of volunteers and ask them to try different strategies to lessen the burning sensation, including asking people with strong religious beliefs to draw on their faith to cope with the pain. |

BBC Four's Documentary on Lomography (Jan 12 2005 23:40 GMT) - Apparently, I am the only person on the Intarweb who had not heard of Lomos prior to this week. They remind me of the pinhole oatmeal box cameras that we used to make in photography class back in highschool. Makes me wonder if I still have any of those prints lying around my parents' house... |

Amazing Race 6 Hotel Report: Hotel La Prieta (Jan 12 2005 23:40 GMT) - We thought Corsica had itself a major coming out party on last night's Amazing Race episode. From its seaside beauty, to Napoleon's house, and its unspoiled looking towns, Corsica's CBS cameo made us want to get on a plane to the Mediterranean. However, as usual the racers were too busy bickering, fretting, and, well, just plain racing, to notice Corsica's beauty. Hopefully, once the contestants reached the pit stop in La Pietra the cast and crew was given an opportunity to check out their surroundings. Hotel La Pietra, adjacent to the pit stop, is far and away our choice for the "most likely to house the Amazing Racers" award this week. |

Will Smuggle Dope For Week At Peter Island (Jan 12 2005 23:40 GMT) - We told you last fall that Daily Candy launched a travel section, and we try to get over there when they publish a new travel story. Their latest is all about spas, and the spa that caught our attention was the one on Peter Island. Gorgeous empty beaches, private spa, private beach, private island, all sound good to us. Furthermore, the resort spa only uses indigenous ingredients for all of their special massage oils, we have no idea what minerals could possibly be indigenous to tiny St. Pete, but that is besides the point. |

Windows XP Automatic dial up (Jan 12 2005 23:39 GMT) - It is possible to set Internet Explorer, or Outlook Express, and possibly a few other programs to automatically dial the internet when they are launched. If you make set them to auto-connect like that, and you include a short cut to one or the other of those programs in your "start up" menu, then when you start your computer, it will try to run one of those programs, and the program will try to auto dial the web. I can walk you through those steps if you want. :) |

Heads Up for Promotions, Events and Marketing - Robert Dyas to double stores by 2007 [Mark "Websites" Walmsley] (Jan 12 2005 23:38 GMT) - British hardware store chain Robert Dyas have announced plans to double the number of stores to 150 by 2007 with 25 new stores in 2005. If you offer promotional, marketing or events services, the marketing controller Dean Morris wants to hear from you. What I need is introductions to marketing directors in the Arts, entertainment, heritage, charity and leisure sectors in the UK. Or a heads up and intro to anyone working at a medium sized business planning a website redevelopment. All the best. |
