Blink and The Wisdom of Crowds (Jan 14 2005 02:59 GMT) - Today's newsletter is more of a test of the newly reinstalled system, so I'll keep it short and send just this item, a discussion between Malcolm Gladwell, the author of The Tipping Point and Blink!, and James Surowiecki, author of The Wisdom of Crowds. The format is interesting - a back-and-forth exchange over the course of a week (this week, in fact; the final installment is tomorrow). Just to keep you up to date - Not all services on my website are running yet. |

It All Comes Together (Jan 14 2005 02:59 GMT) - In my opinion (and countless others) it is indeed becoming more and more obvious that it is getting close to the end of time. Now I don't want to turn this into a religious blog but certainly if you have any belief in the bible or believe the earth is going cease as we know it then you must also see the signs. When you see world bodies such as the United Nations produce educational material such as this: You have to ask yourself what is going on and who honestly thinks making cartoons about ... |

Side income ideas? (Jan 14 2005 02:59 GMT) - Hey all, I'm having a struggle with money right now, I've tightened everywhere I can. I can't remember the last time I went out. A couple good things though, I realized I don't miss having over 100 channels on TV or the blazing fast 1Mb/s of DSL... Okay I miss the DSL but anyway I am wondering... |

Hello From Canada (by: Marilyn) (Jan 14 2005 02:59 GMT) - Hi my name is Marilyn and I'm from Ontario Canada. Some friends and I want to start a Christian Forum using Webnet77. I am definitely a newbie when it comes to designing a web page and then uploading it onto the internet. I am trying to learn how to do the HTML codes for the title page and I really need some help in setting it up how to do the codes, what to put where, metatags, and so forth. I mean real beginner stuff! |

PeopleSoft Employees Brace For Layoffs (Jan 14 2005 02:56 GMT) - There is a lot of uncertainty today for the 11,000 employees at PeopleSoft. Pink slips are expected to go out as soon as Friday or Saturday at the company's Pleasanton headquarters, but the dread is already palpable. The recent takeover of PeopleSoft by its giant rival Oracle will mean a loss of jobs. The question now is: how many? |

Ohio dumps touch-screen machines (Jan 14 2005 02:56 GMT) - Kenneth Blackwell, Ohio's Secretary of State, isn't exactly a leading light of election reform, but it's good to see him make the right decision on voting machines. Citing the high price of electronic voting systems, Blackwell yesterday ordered every Ohio county to switch to well-regarded optical-scan machines, not touch-screens, by November 2005. |

Windows Longhorn to make Graphics Cards more Important (Jan 14 2005 02:56 GMT) - Renegade334 writes "The Inquirer has a story about MS Longhorn and its need for better than entry level graphics cards. This is due to the WGF (Windows Graphics Foundation) which will merge 2D and 3D graphics operations in one, and 3D menus and interfaces that require atleast Shader 2.0 compliant cards. Supposedly it will really affect the performance of the new Microsoft OS." This has been noted before in the system requirements for Longhorn, but it would seem the full impact is slowl... |
