More Shrill Critics of George W. Bush... (Jan 14 2005 23:46 GMT) - According to Bob Somerby, the New York Times's Elizabeth Bumiller counts Secretary of the Treasury John Snow, Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, Secretary of HHS Tommy Thompson, and Social Security Commissioner Jo Anne Barnhart among the shrill critics of George W. Bush. They, after all, are the people saying that "the [current] system would be able to pay three-quarters of promised benefits four decades from now." The Next 100 Years (Jan 14 2005 23:45 GMT) - Wow. Time just flies. I guess it's time to rant again, but I'm not really in that kind of mood. I've been pretty pensive of late. You see, I’ve been reading a lot of mind-boggling subjects lately--lectures from Stephen Hawking on Time and Theo... |

But was it a magic fish? (Jan 14 2005 23:45 GMT) - If so, go ahead and waste your first two wishes, but always keep the third one to wish that this had never happened to begin with. Sorry, it's just tradition. IF you found this fish staring up at you from a pond, you might do a double take. For the carp's face displays some extraordinarily human features. Sinister eyes seem to peer out from the head and a broad nose tapers down to the mouth. |

Electrical device promising for spinal cord injury (Jan 14 2005 23:45 GMT) - Early tests are raising hopes that a new device can help people who've injured their spinal cord. Implantation of an oscillating field stimulator, which generates an electrical field, is a safe, well-tolerated treatment that may improve motor and sensory function in such patients, findings from a pilot study suggest. The device, which was developed at Purdue University, is placed near the site of injury and is designed to stimulate nerves to regenerate and, it's hoped, restore some... |

EasyPHP Works! (Jan 14 2005 23:44 GMT) - I wrote [about EasyPHP][1] a couple of days ago. It's a Windows installer that gets Apache, MySQL, PHP, and phpMyAdmin running with a minimum of fuss, and provides a simple GUI to start and stop the services. (Visit [EasyPHP][2] for details.) Here's a brief followup: it works as advertised. |
