70 and climbing (Jan 16 2005 03:59 GMT) - My room has just reached seventy degrees and it is still going up. I've been having a problem lately where the temperature in here is a steady 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Our thermostat is set at seventy two degrees, but I am forbidden to turn it up, as the basement is five to ten degrees warmer. Both my wife and her sister hang out at the basement and envy the 65 degree weather in my |

ten-year webiversary (Jan 16 2005 03:59 GMT) - I realized today that it was about ten years ago that I developed my first personal website on the Internet. While my earliest pages--hosted at Digex--no longer seem to be available (I can't locate them in the Internet Archive), in 1995 I moved to my own domain, elfintech.com, and the Internet Archive aka the Wayback Machine has several copies beginning with a version from mid-1996, then titled "The Elfwood." |

No Looking Back (Jan 16 2005 03:58 GMT) - Shake off this sadness, and recover your spirit; sluggish you will never see the wheel of fate that brushes your heel as it turns going by, the man who wants to live is the man in whom life is abundant. There was a time when I would have given anything to go back. As far back as I could go. Back to my old apartment; |

Supporting Our Troops This ... (Jan 16 2005 03:57 GMT) - Supporting Our Troops This guy is taking a bullet for his chain of command. Nobody wrote a memo for him saying he could do whatever the fuck he wanted with prisoners. They took his picture , therefore he is guilty. If his chain of command were not dysfunctional, he would have been disciplined long before the those pictures became public. |

Rogue taxidermyIndeed, the absurdly gory, sometimes campy nature of the work is aggressively weird. But the three are earnest about their art and the ideas they are trying to highlight through taxidermy. All are animal lovers, with a number of pet dogs, cats, birds and fish among them; they use only roadkill, donations from veterinarians and unused animal remains from museums. |

Noir Tuesday (Jan 16 2005 03:55 GMT) - This Tuesday, TCM is running a great line-up of noirs, if you haven't seen these classics: Murder, My Sweet (5AM), Born to Kill (11AM), Out of the Past (3PM), Double Indemnity (5PM), The Postman Always Rings Twice (7PM), The Lady from Shanghai (9PM), Detour (1030PM), The Maltese Falcon (12AM), and Act of Violence (145AM)(all PT) I haven't seen Born to Kill yet, but it sounds great, and Maltese Falcon & Postman Always Rings Twice are overrated at this point, but if you haven't seen 'em, you s... |

UNESCO conference on freedom of. ... (Jan 16 2005 03:55 GMT) - UNESCO conference on freedom of. I really have to go to this UNESCO conference on Freedom of Speech in Cyberspace which will be held in UNESCO headquarters in Paris, on 3-4 February. At least to embarrass the Iranian delegation which will be arrogant enough to take part in such conference, even with its horrible record of freedom of speech in Cyberspace, and also to inform the UN and its members about the vast and heavy Net censorship in Iran. (I'm even prepared to do this trip on my own expense, if no other funding can I find.) Since my Canadian citizenship is still in the process, I have to use my invaluable Iranian passport -- again -- and to apply for a Type C Scheme Visa. |
