Google and Small Businesses (Jan 18 2005 00:59 GMT) - CBS News had a segment on Google recently. An excerpt from the transcript: Eric Schmidt, Google’s 49-year-old CEO who was hired in 2001 to be the resident grown-up, says that the pool of potential advertisers is almost limitless: "There’s a lot of evidence that the companies of which Google is a member are enabling a new kind of commerce, between very small communities, people who can find each other, for whom the traditional advertising mechanisms, whether it’s television advertising or radio, do not serve. Best-seller lists carry a lot of weight with readers, but not all book rankings are created equal (Jan 18 2005 00:59 GMT) - Anonymous Patron writes "The Buffalo News looks at what makes up all those best seller lists we read so much about. A best seller, nowadays, is far more than just a book that has sold a lot of copies. It's more like the embodiment of a myth - the myth of success, desirability, fame - all contained within two glossy book covers. A best seller guarantees big bucks to the publisher, hot sales for the bookseller and - usually - a return ticket to the best-seller list for the author. Think of John Grisham or Stephen King: |

Comment Spam (Jan 18 2005 00:56 GMT) - I don’t know what is worse; comment spam is or people blogging about how somebody else is going to fix it for us. A cryptic blog post a set off a whirlwind of blog postings, but not one word from those benevolent dictators who promise to “do no evil” |

RSS Aggravation (Jan 18 2005 00:56 GMT) - Are feeds implied licenses, or can they alter express ones? I don't think there's an easy answer, but a court could be asked this question before long as businesses built on RSS continue to explore what they can and should be doing with the material they aggregate. Marty Schwimmer (Bloglines, no thanks), Dennis Kennedy (don't make me put ads in my feed), and Robert Scoble (people who live in full post houses shouldn't throw republication stones) have more. Mark Fletcher expands and contracts.... |

Understanding resolution and browsers (Jan 18 2005 00:55 GMT) - Yes; I think it was probably this central issue which got me started here on my resolution confusion / investigations. I'll have to look now how my html editor displays in XP 125%. Hopefully I can associate Firefox into it as the external browser and maybe get the same 'resolution-irrelevant' display. Of course, to say again, this is assuming that I indeed have used em and % properly in those 2 files, and succeeded in creating the most 'transparent' code. |
