Michigan Libraries Going RFID (Jan 22 2005 06:59 GMT) - The Grand Rapids Press Reports The Kent District Library Board is counting on a $1.5 million technology program to keep its staffing costs down while providing service to more and more patrons. The board Thursday approved spending $825,000 for radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to make checking library materials in and out faster and easier. "If we don't provide the technology, we're going to be in a situation where our staff can't continue to address the work load," Smart said. "We won't be able to be open as much because we won't have the staff to handle the demand for service. |
