Brujeric Conlang Profile Edited (Jan 22 2005 20:59 GMT) - Gregory H. Bontrager modified the Conlang profile for Brujeric (Franco-Castilian). Brujeric (also called Franco-Castilian) is a Romance language invented for an epic fantasy I plan to write sometime in the near future. It essentially blends a very Spanish phonetic system with a rather French lexicography, but it also has a few direct Latinisms as well as a few unique emergent attributes to add to the sense of authenticity. Grammar is a roughly equal blend of French and Spanish influences. |

Can someone remind me, or point me to a document (I couldn't find one on a cursory look) that explains the differences between basic, standard, and powernetworkers? tnx. Apple's Strategy (Jan 22 2005 20:55 GMT) - The Economist writes on Apple's mass-market strategy with its iPod Shuffle and Mac mini: It also makes perfect sense, says Steven Milunovich at Merrill Lynch, an investment bank, as long as one realises that “the iPod is the tail wagging the dog”, the dog being Apple’s computer business. Even though the iPod now outsells Apple’s computers by volume, most of the firm's revenues still come from the computers—the iMac desktop, the iBook laptop and the high-end Power Mac and PowerBook. So Mr Jobs still needs to fix Apple’s longstanding problem in its core business, which is that its global market share in computers seems stuck at about 3%. Using the iPod’s “halo effect” to convert mainstream (ie, Microsoft Windows) computer users, thinks Mr Milunovich, is the way to do it. |

Belgium & Ireland (Jan 22 2005 20:55 GMT) - It was a great opportunity for Cyn to add the word “international” to her title of competitive figure skating coach.... She went everywhere - even places she shouldn't have been - getting her picture taken with local famous people, found partaking libation in the tavern. She also managed to be seen amongst a few dead royals buried in the crypts of the cathedrals and castles that Europe seems to have on every corner. |

Blizzard Gear: Magic Warm Heated Clothing (Jan 22 2005 20:55 GMT) - Assuming one isn't on fire, nothing beats heated clothing. And while heated jacket systems for motorcycles (like those from Gerbing) have been around for a while, they don't do you much good in a blizzard, unless you want to try to pop wheelies in a 6-foot whiteout (although they should hook up to snowmobiles just fine. Hrm). As a more mobile alternative, Online German retailer Softline offers the Magic Warm system, a 10- and 12-volt system of heated gloves and shoe insoles that are powered from a rechargeable battery. Enough juice to keep you toasty, but not enough to kill you when you fall through the ice after melting it with your steaming boots. |
