Back in the Dojong (Jan 26 2005 02:44 GMT) - I've finally resumed my regular practice of attending taekwondo lessons. I got off to an erratic start earlier this month, and managed to skip a few classes just because I felt like it. I'm glad I did because, while all the assorted aches and pains have returned, along with a couple of new ones, I actually feel better. It's great therapy for coping with the long, cold nights of the Dark Ages. |

The Google Network (Jan 26 2005 02:43 GMT) - I don't know if this is frightening or encouraging, but considering what I pay for broken connectivity and who, I think I'll opt for the latter, and worry about it later: "Google is looking for Strategic Negotiator candidates with experience in... (i)dentification, selection, and negotiation of dark fiber contracts both in metropolitan areas and over long distances as part of development of a global backbone network..." Qatadah said, "Fir'awn was the most tyrannical among the people of the earth and the most disbelieving. |

WHERE SWITZERLAND BEATS THE U.S. (Jan 26 2005 02:42 GMT) - Read. Now imagine the fury that would come down if it were suggested that American kids could act like Swiss kids. The Swiss, of course, don't suffer any serious amount of gun crime--perhaps lending support to the statement that an... |

SugarCRM (Jan 26 2005 02:41 GMT) - A couple of years ago I was at the headquarters of Salesforce.com discussing their solution with a group of SFDCers when I opined that at some point they would offer up the software for license to those companies who wanted to run it on their own infrastructure. For those who don't know, Salesforce.com is a hosted solution and they pride themselves on it, to the point that their phone number is 1-800-NO-SOFTWARE. They said it would never happen. |

Government Campaigns Against Fad Diets (Jan 26 2005 02:41 GMT) - The Government of the Australian state of Victoria has started a campaign aimed at warning people of the dangers of fad diets. The campaign is believed to be the first of its kind in the world. With Australians second only to the US in both obesity rates and weight loss expenditure, the authorities are getting concerned about more and more people risking not only their money but also their long-term health by following fad diets. Especially low-carb diets like Atkins, and radical deprivation diets like the Cabbage-Soup-Diet, seem to be the target of the warning campaign. As it is often the case with politicians, the warning message is not accompanied by a positive alternative you could use to lose weight and improve your health. |
