Corpse flower blooms in Sydney (Jan 26 2005 05:35 GMT) - Australians have a taste for a stinky flower. Hundreds of people queued up in Sydney to get a glimpse and a whiff of a blooming "corpse flower", the world's largest and arguably smelliest flower. The Titan Arum's smell is described as something like rotting flesh or fish gone bad, hence its nickname. Its blooms, which can have a diameter of as much as four feet (1.33 metres), release a pungent stench to attract insects. |

Cha-Cha-Cha-Changes (Jan 26 2005 05:34 GMT) - I uploaded all of my childhood family portraits to Flickr and marked them as private to family. I doubt any of them are interested in seeing them anyway. a nanotech primer (Jan 26 2005 05:34 GMT) - You might have noticed that this publication has largely refrained so far from posting about Nanotech. Simply a matter of focus and indeed I do not think the area can live up to the hype. However the Economist features a survey of Nanotech with some interesting insides: - there is no Nanotech industry as such as inventions in this space tend to help many different industries "If there is one thing everyone agrees on, it is that nanotechnology is neither an industry nor a market. Lumping together different nanotechnology firms may be as sensible as assembling a group of firms whose names start with Z. |

Welcome! (Jan 26 2005 05:34 GMT) - Alright, I'm going to start fresh and get a few things down as a new introduction. While some of you have been reading me since the early days of Reds Daily (maybe even back to my Redsfaithful's Baseball Blog days) I've picked up quite a few new readers in the past few months, so I think a proper introduction is warranted. I've been a Reds fan all my life. I honestly can't remember ever not following the team. Cincinnati won the World Series when I was nine, after a bunch of second place finishes (and the Pete Rose thing), and I can honestly say that the moment when that baseball landed softly in Todd Benzinger's glove will always rank as one of my life's greatest. |
