Telstra trial takes ADSL broadband to new lengths (Jan 31 2005 10:58 GMT) - Telstra today announced it is trialling an innovative new device that will significantly increase the transmission limits of ADSL broadband from an enabled Telstra exchange. The extension technology will initially be trialled at Woodend, Merbein and Robinvale within the Loddon-Mallee area of Victoria as part of a Coordinated Communications Infrastructure Fund project*, and in Mudgeeraba, Queensland, as well as in Mt Eliza, Victoria. The three-month trial involves the use of electronic 'booster' equipment, which is located near the end of the current transmission limit. The equipment can increase the signal by up to 20 kilometres from an ADSL-enabled telephone exchange. The trial will help Telstra assess if it is technically and commercially feasible to use the device more widely. |
