'The Sopranos' nets $2.5m per episode on A&E (Feb 01 2005 18:39 GMT) - All we can say is: Hahahahaha. That's in reaction the price tag A&E paid HBO to syndicate The Sopranos, beginning in fall 2006. Paying "at least" $2.5 million per episode, A&E will end up forking over $162. |

Other Political News In The Air (Feb 01 2005 18:38 GMT) - Time to look at the political beat outside of our five boroughs. First, acting NJ Governor Richard Codey said he will not run for governor next year, instead deciding to let Senator Jon Corzine, the former Goldman Sachs CEO, run on the Democratic ticket as well. Gothamist is sorry to hear that Governor Codey won't be running, because he got handed a thankless situation when McGreevey stepped down, and Codey has down a great job to galvanizing many people and the media behind him. Plus he's been impressive: He gave his State of the State address without a teleprompter! |

One Year Of Fine Blogging (Feb 01 2005 18:38 GMT) - INDC Journal, one of the best blogs in the blogsphere, has turned one year old today. You Can't Honor Robert E. Lee and the United States (Feb 01 2005 18:37 GMT) - I'm still steaming about the conflation of the birthdays of traitor Robert E. Lee and great American Martin Luthor King. The people who support Robert E. Lee and fly confederate flags in the name of "history" are conservatives, the same conservatives who run around talking about the intent of the founders of this country and a strict interpretation of the United States Constitution. I can't see how they can have it both way. |

heise.de down (Feb 01 2005 18:36 GMT) - Since this morning the webserver on heise.de seems to be down. This is very uncommon, since heise is the most popular IT news page overall and is usually used by a lot of computer specialists for internet connection tests, because of it's rare downtime. Of course, this can be done the moment, too, because the host heise.de seems to be up. |

Porn Spam Makes A Triumphant Return (Feb 01 2005 18:35 GMT) - It's getting tough to tell who you can actually trust when it comes to the various spam surveys about what spam is out there -- as they seldom seem to agree with each other. Just a month ago we were writing about how porn spam clearly seemed to be on the decline, while a new report suggests the amount of porn spam has tripled. Indeed, the studies might agree, as the new one says that porn spam tripled in January from December (when we had noted it slowed). So, apparently, porn spammers suddenly felt that January was the right time to start blasting porn spam again, while financial spam suddenly seemed to be less exciting. On the "always popular" list, "health" or "medical" spam (again, extremely loosely defined) seems to always be in fashion. |
