Schiehallion (Folklore by Rhiannon) (Feb 03 2005 14:29 GMT) - Cailleach Bheur (pronounced 'cal'yach vare') is rumoured to haunt Schiehallion, and other mountains like Ben Nevis. She is a frightening blue-faced hag - a personification of Winter, and also called 'the daughter of Grianan (the winter sun)'. The Cailleach was reborn each All Hallows and went about smiting the earth and calling down snow! On May Eve she threw down her staff under one of her wintery plants, the holly or the gorse, and - interestingly - turned into a grey stone. One wonders how many ... |

Political Blogger's Remorse (Feb 03 2005 14:29 GMT) - Political Blogger's Remorse Rook today references a hell of a great post he made last summer. Yup, it's that time again where yours truly is suffering from Political Blogger's Remorseâ„¢, that dreadful malady that seems to affect all bloggers from time to time. Come on, you all know what it is I am blogging of-that persistent, nagging thought that you're only adding to the echo, not actually starting it. That in the end, the echo originates from the SCLM that we all fervently attack and link to simultaneously, while impatiently eyeing our site stats to see if this post, finally this post, is the one that gets us noticed. I suspect most of us feel it from time to time, particularly those of us on the lesser traveled roads of blogland... |

Sensors Everywhere (Feb 03 2005 14:29 GMT) - It's not the first time i choose to tell you about wireless sensor-network technology (check below for previous references). But this article from InformationWeek gives me the opportunity to revisit the subject. The story describes several current projects, from the Department of Homeland Security that wants to secure the U.S. borders, to British Petroleum (BP) monitoring its plants and chips. |
