Um, maybe turnout wasn't so high... (Feb 04 2005 20:52 GMT) - We knew this was coming. For days, the press repeated, as gospel, assertions offered by an election official that 8 million Iraqis went to the polls on Sunday, an impressive 57% turnout rate. I questioned those figures as early as last Sunday, and offered the detailed analysis below on Wednesday. Finally, on Thursday night, John F. Burns and Dexter Filkins of The New York Times reported that Iraqi election officials have quietly "backtracked, saying that the 8 million estimate had been reached hastily on the basis of telephone reports from polling stations across the country and that the figure could change. |

Fowler: 'Dean can work for me' (Feb 04 2005 20:52 GMT) - Dean needs 224 votes to be the next chair of the Democratic Party. As of yesterday, National Journal reports Dean had 215 endorsements to Fowler's 13. Fowler claims he's really got 72 endorsements, though it's curious that these votes haven't announced publicly. But it's really his arrogance that's grating:WOODRUFF: |

(Feb 04 2005 20:51 GMT) - UGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH.I hate being sick.I am on Airborne, Oscillo, Sambucol, Thayer's slippery elm, Zand Elderberry lozenges, and finally gave in to taking some cough drops--Luden's Honey & Licorice--menthol seems to work though I usually try to avoid it. I wanted to get some honey based throat syrup, but everything I looked at seemed to have proplyene glycol in it---the bane of my existence. I don't want to treat my throat with ANTI-FREEZE. |

Who's blogging? (Feb 04 2005 20:51 GMT) - Sometimes I read a random weblog and I ask myself: is there a guy or a girl writing? No visiual clues, no nick name that seems gender specific, no revealing sexual preferences, no gossip, just genderless statements of unknown origin. |

Hazmat followup (Feb 04 2005 20:49 GMT) - That program to take biometric information from hazmat truckers I mentioned earlier, isn't for Canadian drivers. It doesn't apply to them, however they have been working towards their own security card as well, and they are talking to the US... |

On Satan and demon possession (Feb 04 2005 20:49 GMT) - This is my first opportunity to address the weekly blog topic. I can't think of any subject on which Christians disagree more, with the possible exception of tongues and eternal security. I know I have disagreed in love with many brothers and sisters in Christ about how Christians should regard Sat |

The Collapse Of History In America (Feb 04 2005 20:49 GMT) - Between poltical correctness, and historians simply lifting whole sections of books rather than doing research, we may be the first western culture to have actively destroyed our history. Whole decades in less than 250 years have vanished. We had 7 presidents before Washington, but pre- revolution American history is already lost. |

Love is complicated. Megan's Law database is simple. (Feb 04 2005 20:48 GMT) - In California, a registered sex offender uses the Megan's Law database as a source for potential dates. He searched for men in the database, and then sent several men a letter looking for sex or friendship, explaining how they could look up his profile in the same system. Turns out that it is illegal for a registered sex offender to access the database of registered sex offenders. (first FPP for me) |
